Bestilaya Supports Library Launch @Kawangware, Nairobi

WATOTO WASOME PROJECT ("Let Kids Learn")

Our vision is to provide a hassle-free platform with new or used books of all kinds for hire, buy/sell, and exchange to the individuals at a very economical cost in their neighborhood. Bestilaya.net powered by KamsHub is committed to helping communities to develop a reading culture with an aim of fostering transformation mostly among youths and kids.

On 20th November 2021, Bestilaya participated in the library launch in Maisha Yangu Organization at Kawangware, Nairobi as an official Partner. Maisha Yangu Organization is a Community Based Organization operating within Mti Moja, Muslim Area, Kawangware, Nairobi - Kenya. They use art and education projects to help children and youths tell their ideas to other children, youths, adults, and decision-makers.

Maisha Yangu is a Swahili word for ‘My Life’. This name depicts the main focus of the organization on what children and youths want to say about their lives. They do one-on-one conversations with the children and youths about what issues are affecting them and how they think their community can be a better and safer place for everyone.

This event was organized by Maktaba Yetu and hosted by Maisha Yangu. The official partners included Taifa Teule Network, KamsHub, Bestilaya, Maktaba Yetu, IEEE Kenya Section, and IEEE Photonics Society Kenya Chapter. The main goal was to help establish a community Library in Mti Moja, Muslim Area in Kawangware (Nairobi, Kenya) with enough books, computers, and adequate shelves. The idea was initiated by Maktaba Yetu in collaboration with the Maisha Yangu Organization. They found that there was a dire need for a library since children in the area lack a conducive environment and academic resources both at home and in school.

At the event, Bestilaya Donated 9 books courtesy of the iSahara Centre Books Publishers who are the current main partner in the Bestilaya.net platform. In addition, Bestilaya provided FREE Unlimited Access to the Bestilaya.net Platform for students to access all the downloadable school-related material on the platform. IEEE Photonics Society Kenya Section donated 4 Desktop Computers to the organization plus other goodies while the IEEE Kenya Section facilitates logistics among volunteers during the day. Computers will be used to access e-learning materials as well as equip the students with digital literacy skills.
